There is probably a large volume of works related to clash between Western culture and Japanese society. If you read Kotaku for example, you will see articles almost weekly about ways in which Japan is “different”.
- Stupeur et tremblements
- Lost in translation (Sofia Copolla’s movie)
- Iertati-ma ca nu sunt japonez (“Forgive me for not being Japanese”)
Number 3 is my favorite, it’s a book by a Romanian who moved to Japan. He describes his personal experience
I find that Lost in Translation focuses on rather frivolous aspects of Japanese culture missing out on the whole experience. But that’s OK.
Number 1 is my all time favorite.
